Student Support

What is Student Support?

Student Support aims to help students cope with any difficulties they might be experiencing in their lives. These difficulties may be emotional, social or academic. For students in Form 3 and above Student Support offers careers counselling and assistance in applying to universities around the world.

Support is provided through:

Counselling-
We all have problems and difficulties from time to time. Counselling enables you to 'talk through' issues in a non-judgemental, confidential setting. Counselling at MAP follows a code of ethics based on those provided by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Counselling occurs on most afternoons and appointments should be made through the Head of Student Support.

Careers Guidance-
Considering your options beyond secondary school is often a source of anxiety for many students. Student Support provides all students with the opportunity to discuss their career and tertiary education aspirations. One of the latest computer-based, psychometric career assessment tests from the UK known as Pathfinder aids in this process.

Careers talks and visits from various tertiary institutions are also arranged on a regular basis.

Learning Support-
This includes help with study skills, examination technique, motivation and goal setting. Learning support takes the form of workshops and individual assistance.

Peer Support-
A number of trained senior students are available to listen to concerns a student may have. Names of Peer Supporters are to be found on the Student Support noticeboard. Members of the Peer Support Service are also available to help new Form 1 students in their transition to secondary school.

All Student Support activities take place in either Student Support Room 1 (learning support and careers assessments) or Student Support Room 2 (counselling and careers guidance).
